The time-honored tradition in Hollywood of striking exclusive merchandising deals with retailers is alive and well, and big retailers like Target and Walmart scramble to strike deals with studios for exclusive Twilight merchandise. These deals typically cover DVDs and Blu-rays with new footage as well as apparel, special trailers and digital downloads.

For example, Best Buy has previously packaged Summit's "Twilight: New Moon" in a steel case emblazoned with the Cullen Crest and Quileute Pack tattoo symbols on the front and including a "New Moon" cell phone skin inside. Walmart's "Ultimate Fan Edition" of the film's disc included never-before-seen footage of "Eclipse". And while Target offered the "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" as a collector's edition with the DVD, Blu0ray, exclusive packaging and six collectible cards, Walmart paired the film with the documentary "Destination Forks: The Real World of Twilight" as a separate DVD, while Best Buy sold the film in a steel case and offered a discount for Bella's bracelet.

A term has been coined to describe those people who both love and hate everything Twilight, called "Obsessive Twilight Disorder." This condition affects people for different reasons. Both those who love and hate the books and movies often have no logical reason for their strong feelings, yet that doesn't seem to matter much to them.

For example, a 9th grade student is not afraid to show her love of the series, as she buys a lot of Twilight merchandise and even owns a giant poster of Taylor Lautner. Another young fan said that the reason she loves the books is that the author is younger and she can relate to teens in her style of writing. On the other hand, the reason that many people hate Twilight is because they are bothered by how popular it is, and it irritates them how obsessed people can get with something that is fictional.
